Friends With Benefits – How To Make It Work!

We all, at some point in our lives, have considered the idea of friends with benefits. The thought that you can have someone there who will take care of the more physical side of having a relationship, but that won’t want to be tied down with any level of commitment. Well, what is not to like?

In the movies it seems that the idea of friends with benefits is something that always works out for the best. But the truth is that it isn’t quite as easy as that to be able to have the best of both worlds.

If you are considering a friends with benefits situation, then here at the main things that you need to think about on how to make it work.

Talk it through first

One of the first things to do when you are planning on taking a friends with benefits approach is to make sure you talk it through first. Make sure that you both understand what is going on and what are your boundaries too. The last thing that you are going to want is to find that one of you wants to take it further and the other isn’t feeling the same.

Always, always be safe

Now we know that two friends ending up having a baby together is great for a sitcom storyline; but in the real world this situation really isn’t one that you are going to want to find yourself in. Make sure that you keep yourself and your friend safe, by always wearing protection. Not only will it stop you from having a pregnancy scare, but it will also keep you both safe from any infections too.

Keep talking

We have already covered how important it is to talk things through at the beginning, but you still need to make sure that you keep these lines of communication open throughout. Check in with each other from time to time, making sure that you are both still on the same page and that you are happy with the way that things are.

Have fun

If there is one thing that friends with benefits should always have, it is fun. So, make sure that you have as much fun as possible. Treat your time together as a chance to explore what you both want sexually and be able to feel empowered to then take this forward to your next relationship.

Don’t get jealous

As we have already covered, it is important that you both have fun when it comes to being friends with benefits. However, there is always a chance that jealousy can come creeping in. If you start to feel jealous, then you need to re-think the situation as perhaps you are getting too emotionally involved and need to take a step back.

Whilst it is nice while it lasts, the idea is that no friends with benefits situation lasts forever. Use one another as a fantastic stop-gap between another relationship and harness all the fun that can come with a passionate, sex only fling with someone that you care about.
