Can Positive Thinking Really Help You To Feel Better About Yourself?

“If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”

Is a famous quote by Drag Race icon and Queen of the Runway, Ru-Paul and we have to say that we agree. Love is something that we all need in our lives, but if we don’t take the opportunity to love ourselves then we are never likely to have any other love in our lives. 

Now, we know what you are thinking, it is great to think positively about yourself, but does it actually do anything? The answer is yes. We believe that positive thinking really can help you to feel better about every single inch of your amazing body and here is how to make sure that you do feel good about yourself. 

Stop saying what you hate about yourself

We are all too quick to highlight the things that we are not such big fans of on our bodies. “I really hate my legs”, “my legs are awful” are just two examples of the hurtful and harmful things we say about ourselves. One of the first things to change when it comes to positive thinking is to stop saying all of the things that you hate and instead start giving yourself some love instead. Swap “I hate my legs” to “I love my hair colour” and it will soon become habit. 

Talk to yourself like you would your friend

Are you someone who is always making sure that your friend feels amazing about themselves? Are you always paying them plenty of compliments and highlighting all the things that you love about them? If you are, then you should remind yourself to talk to yourself as you would your friend, perhaps this will mean that you are a little kinder and less judgemental?

Stop comparing yourself

We know that social media is great for a whole lot of things, but it also has it’s drawbacks too. It gives us a way to compare ourselves with other people, usually people we don’t even know. When we see something on social media, it is not a real and true portrayal of that person which means that if we are comparing ourselves to these images, then we are trying to reach and unrealistic goal. 

Keep trying

It won’t always be easy to love yourself, but you need to keep trying. Just like any other habit, if you don’t keep trying then you will never get used to doing it. Remind yourself why you are doing it and keep your eye on the end goal and we can promise you that it will be worth it in the end.

You can’t beat a bit of self-confidence and love for your body! So, if you are struggling with this, perhaps all you need to do is try out a spot of positive thought. 

So, the best way to make sure that you feel great about is to just try out some positive thinking. It can be hard to do at first and you might feel a little on the silly side, but we promise you that in no time at all you will have a whole lot of respect for the most important person in your life to look after. Yourself.
